Re: IML: Budd rotors

Hi Ken

to me it also looks like all c body and imperials with Budd brakes all use the same rotor,BUTT,a different hub with different wheelbearing and bolt pattern. That means that you can use rotors from a chrysler on an imperial and visa versa, just by changing the hub.

Rune,

The number on the inside of my rotor is 60888. Upside down it could be
88809. (offline I sent you a couple of photos of my rotor)

This pasted weekend I got a couple of rotor and hub assemblies from Kenyon.
One of them was clearly an Imperial part as it had the 5 on 5 bolt pattern.
The other had a smaller bolt pattern and smaller bearings. But once removed
from the hub, both had the same rotor with the 60888 number on the inside.

Based on what I've found so far, I'm going to say that all the C-Body 67 &
68 (early 69 too) cars using Budd brakes also use the same rotor.

That means that anyone with a New Yorker or 300 from the same years using
the Budd brake system could benefit from the new rotors we're trying to get
made.

Ken

Rune,

Do you still have the original rotors from the Town & Country? If so, can
you see it there is a part number cast into the metal somewhere on the disc?

I'll compare that to my rotor when I remove it this weekend. I'm suspecting
it may be the same part number.

Thx

hi all

i used the supra rotors on my 67 chrysler town & country, and i just had to
do what is standing in the arcive on this side. After machining it was bolt
on.So i belive the only different betwin imperial and c-bodys rotor is the
hub.The boltpattern in the rotor seems to be the same, but with different
bolt patter on the hub.

There are more disc brake C-bodies out there than you think, especially 67 and 68 Chrysler models. Seems like another one is popping up every week. As with our Imperials, the c-body guys are hosed when it comes to replacing those rotors.

AFAIK the Budds first appeared as optional equipment on 1965 Dodge and
Plymouth police vehicles. Both the 1965 and 1966 MPC show the Budd rotor
and hub to be sold as an assembly, p/n 2534144-5 for right and left. Does
anyone have a later MPC showing the rotor being sold separately?

It would sure be great if the only difference between the Imperial rotor and
the c-body rotor was the way that the disc was drilled for hub mounting. I
don't suppose it's possible <gasp> that the Imp and c-body rotors are the
same? In looking at my pics of the Budds on a 10k mile 69 LeBaron I can't
determine how the hub and rotor are joined -- 5 bolts from the back
(knuckle) side???

I'd consider adding Budds to my 65 Polara vert and/or 66 Fury vert if I knew
I could get rotors. And if the rotor price was reasonable.
