It almost has to be electrical connected.
When it get warm it does not want to run right. Check and make sure the
cap does not have a crack. More important tho is to check the coil and the
reluctor in the dist. As far as buying a new dist you can probably rebuild
yours cheaper with a new stator and reluctor. Some thing has to be getting
to hot and causing the car to pop when warmed up.
