It's not -  $500USD is about $560CAD.   It just appears we have a major price fluctuation between US supply and Canadian supply.
 
Way a item is that much less in the US vs Canada - it is not completely the exchange it is somebody's opportunity to make money.
 
Ah well.  At least I can get the parts and to drive to Watertown - gas etc. I may as well pay the Canadian price.

Just thought I would share our pricing.  My '71 Imperial needs a compressor & drier. Cost $256.73CAD for the compressor
Cost $124.49CAD for the drier
 
When I called a supplier in Watertown NY -
Cost $139.00USD for the compressor
Cost $  49.00USD for the drier.
 
Ouch eh??
 
oh well - at least I will finally get some a/c in the Imperial
