Re: IML: Northwest USA driving/cruise-in's/summer

Hello Everyone, from Portland Oregon,
Summer is winding down, but Ken Miller and I have been trying to co-ordinate an IMPERIAL get-together before the winter rains return.
If anyone is interested, there is an annual Cruise-In at Lew's Dari-Freeze on McLoughlin Blvd in Oak Grove,(Portland) Oregon, Saturday Sept. 2, 6-10pm, this gathering usually takes place as an all-day event, but for some reason, it is an evening Cruise-In this year (at least that is what I was told). If anyone in Oregon or Southern Washington has any more info about this I would be very interested to find out who is co-ordinating this meet and if the day and times are correct. Also on the following weekend, Sept. 9, the annual "Rod Run" in Long beach, Washington is taking place and I know Clint and Laurie will have the details on that one. I will try to be at Lew's with one of my '57-'58 Imperials, or my  daily driver '58 Chevy wagon. I'll be wearing a Ed Roth "Rat Fink" t-shirt, so I should be easy to spot, come up and say Hello. I will also be in Long Beach, Washington for the "Rod Run" Sept. 9. I don't have any info on any other Vancouver or Southern Washington meets, so if anyone has any updates on those, please post them to the list. And finally, how many people out there would be able to attend if we could co-ordinate a get-together somewhere in Portland or Vancouver this Summer/Fall, and what weekend would be best for everyone???
Cheers,
-Mike in Damascus, (formerly Boring) Oregon

Well, Mark and Paul - you aren't the only ones out in our splendid NW weather lately! (oops - can't let anybody know how NICE it is here in our all-too-brief summers.....)

Hubby Rick and I had a very pleasant visit from friend and fellow Imperialist Bill Ullmann last Saturday. Since Bill adopted his beloved Doris Day (1966 Convertible) out to Dan, he's been somewhat Imperial-deprived. We took Lucille out for a little spin around our country backroads, with Bill driving and me riding shotgun - nice change! I loved getting to enjoy the panoramic view from the greenhouse, and out over the huge expanse of golden-painted hood!

Bill could not reisist "sticking his foot in it" on long straightaways, remarking at her acceleration, and was most pleasantly surprised at the quality and effectiveness of those big Budd discs in front when he ran out of road. Lucille's sensitive handling and smooth ride made negotiating the narrow paved roads a pleasure, and she sniffed derisively at the bumps and lumps in the gravel access road we live on. Lesser vehicles move OVER when they see her coming, even those local denizens with huge tires and jacked up suspensions. With the windows down to enjoy the perfect temperature, it was a completely wonderful experience. These big cars were meant to DRIVE, and they still do such a wonderful job of doing just that. Pretty doggone nice from the passenger's perspective too!
