IML: 1960 trans/prop/diff/problems

hi, i have just had my 1960 trans rebuilt as was hanging off bell housing and caused major damage to internals, all was fine for about 300 miles when then same problem arose?? i returned car to the autoshop - who said that the 4 bolts had come lose again.. he re-sucured and i should take back for recheck after 100 miles. does anyone know the cause of this problem????

as a precaution i am having the propshaft balanced / uj's replaced and the diff checked out.

also oil is escaping up and out of a selector cable, are there new replacment cables available??

best wishes, steve.

Subject: IML: Heavy Lifting Done at the club website
Date: Mon, 4 Sep 2006 10:06:55 -0700 (PDT)

Hi gang,

I want to write in to highlight a few things and ask
for your help as a fellow club-member.

First of all, I'd like to shout at the top of my lungs
about the FANTASTIC job that Mark Evans has done
recently. Take a look here:

http://imperialclub.com/Repair/Lit/Master/index.htm

That is the MTSC section, an absolutely fabulous
resource for understanding how things work, and each
of those booklets is 14-16 pages. We had a donation
from a generous benefactor, and they sent me (us)
about 70 of these booklets, along with the attendant
filmstrips and records (those are hopefully coming to
the site soon!).

You can get the details about that on the above link.

Anyway, I scanned the booklets in several marathon
sessions as I watched TV, and Mark has slogged through
them all, just announcing (with well deserved pride)
to me that he was all done just this weekend. This
has been a 6+ month project, maybe a year - I can't
remember how long it's been!

There were plenty of other booklets done by other
volunteers previously (thank you), but Mark's been
doing the work in there lately, so thank YOU Mark!

There were various other table scraps in there that he
also managed to knock out, and WHATS NEW is
particularly chock-full of tasty mixed nuts this
month.

I encourage you to go to www.imperialclub.com and see
the WHATS NEW button at the bottom of the page.

I'd also like to ask if this is at all inspiring to
you?

The goal that we have at the website is to create a
FREE, universally available (or at least globally
available) long-term reference resource for owners of
Imperials.

We are facing a serious challenge that we need help
with! We have 19 completed Service Manuals.

http://imperialclub.com/Repair/Lit/index.htm

Each was about 300-600 pages, and they were all done
up by a handful of our volunteers. The guys are
dilligent and hardworking, but we need your help to
get through the remaining manuals. We currently have
about 16 in line, and completing them would take the
club website a LONG way to being more "complete".

These are the ones that we have lined up:

http://imperialclub.com/temp/FSM/

The reason that FSM's are worth scanning/posting?:

Despite the fact that you may already have an "actual"
copy, having a "virtual" copy online provides instant
access to the information wherever you are. You can
look info up while at the computer when considering a
purchase or pondering a problem, or you can print a
page and mark it up for your service provider (as
happened recently at the transmission shop for me - I
used his computer to print a page and then circled
what he needed to know, BAM!).

What we need from you: a little time and energy. You
do NOT need to know much about computers, but be
willing to ask questions, read directons, and have an
ability to learn a new trick.

Each page of a FSM is pretty much like another,
electronically speaking, so if you learn how to
manipulate one, you're pretty much set to do the next.

This involves doing basic celan-up and straightening
of each page. NOT DIFFICULT!

We have a crew that can do the final layout and
posting to the website, but doing each page is labor
intensive and just plain-and-simple takes time to do.

This is where we'd like to "divide and conquer" with
some additional volunteer work.

We're entering fall. It'll be cooler and darker
earlier. Might spending 30 minutes an evening to
knock out a chapter a week be a worthwhile
contribution to help your fellow club-members?

If so, please consider volunteering your time. We
have a mailing list for volunteers (like the IML)
called WEBMONSTERS that we use to run the club website
and coach each other.

You're invited to join us there. Unlike the IML where
you can hang out in the background, we do ask that you
be active, but that's all. Work at your own pace and
just "keep going" is all that we ask.

Please consider volunteering your time!

To offer your services, please go to the club website,
see IMPERIALS BY YEAR, and hit the CONTACT US button
on the page with all of the years on it.

That is:
webmaster@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hope to see some new names soon!
