IML: porter cable buffer and polisher

Hi:

I've just acquired one, with foam pads. Any suggestions on how to use? I've never used one before. Apparently there's a difference between "polishing" and "waxing". What products have others used successfully?

By the way I plan to practice on my wife's Grand Caravan before I touch my 1968 Imp.
