RE: IML: 73 Thermostat replacement

Jerry,

All Mopar engines (at least the ones I familiar with) have a slot tip at the end of the distributor shaft much like a standard screwdriver.  When you put the distributor back it can only go it one of two ways.  The right way or 180 degrees out.  Before you remove the distributor, you will need to remove the cap and lay it to the side.  Make note of the rotor orientation.  When you replace the distributor make sure the rotor is pointed in the same direction.  Also mark the distributor body location with a sharpie marker or a sharp scribe of some sort.  If you get it back in the exact location, chances are you won’t need to reset the timing.

Subject: IML: 73 Thermostat replacement

Hi list,

Time to change the thermostat..so...

That top bolt is right up against the a/c compressor so a socket won't fit, and the distributor is making it impossible to use an open end wrench. If I pulled the distributor out, changed the thermostat..then put it right in, would it affect the timing?...(don't need more problems!)..

Thanks

Jerry
