You can't change the filter and gasket without all of the fluid coming out. That means that you will have to replace the fluid to drive to the shop. There isn't much reason to have it flushed if you are going to do all of that first. Also, once the fluid is replaced, keep an eye on it (via dipstick check) for any change in smell or color. If it turns dark very quickly, that means that the transmission is getting hot and needs work. If it stays fresh looking then you should be good for at least a while.

Ok, so i think the nice guy at Rayco Car Service talked me into getting the
tranny completely flushed. It seems like a good idea to completely flush out the
old fluid, and put in nice fresh fluid, instead of a mixture of the two. He
tells me that if i just want it flushed it's 120 dollars, so what i might do is
go ahead and replace the gasket and filter by myself, and then have the shop
flush it for me with their machine.
Thoughts?
