RE: IML: Power Steering Cooler source

Not knowing the answer for sure but trying to look at logically. I would
think that vehicles used for towing, exercise the steering system to
extremes while backing trailers. While going down the road it may not be so
bad.

Both of my Dodge Cummins Diesel trucks (ordered with full tow packages) have
extra coolers for everything. It wouldn't surprise me if the lug nuts had
cooling fins on them. :-)

What causes the steering fluid to overheat?
Friction in the fluid as it does its work?

There aren't friction plates like in a transmission,
and I'm not seeing what would cause this.

What would cause conditions to change that would make
it heat up more on a tow vehicle? Load on the front
wheels inducing more strain to pivot them?

About coolers:

I have 40 of them hanging on a rafter.

They came from Imperials, so presumably take no
modifiaction. They are a non-wear item as they are
just a finned cooler with hoses.

I can media blast, solvent tank, or leave covered in
vintage funk at your preference.

Contact me off-list about that.
