Re: IML: Automatic Headlight Dimmer

On '60 it is mounted on the firewall behind the speedometer. You don't need to remove anything to get at it, although removing the speedometer makes it easier. The electrical connector should be real close. By '62 they may have moved it to another location as in the '66, possibly coinciding with the change to a different brake booster and master cylinder set up, if that would be in the way.

I only have the headlight dimmer on my '55 and my '60 LeBaron, so I can't speak directly about the others. Over the years, I have virtually had everything apart under the dash on '60 through '65 and NEVER had to remove the dash pad to work on anything.

On the '66, the control unit sits behind the dash just to the left of the glove box. Removing the glove box cardboard (is it cardboard in the '62?) gives you access to the box. That's one heck of a lot easier than removing the entire dash pad, which also gives you access. The dimmer cable plugs directly into the box.
