IML: '67 440cid freeze plugs

Hi everyone:

Can anyone confirm the diameter of the freeze plug in the head on my '67 Imperial 440cid? The local auto parts store shows 1&1/2".

Also, any issues with using the rubber type of plug in the head? I'm trying to do this with the engine in the car, I think the rubber kind will be easier. The bad plug is on the passenger side between the back 2 exhaust ports, behind the exhaust manifold. Is the rubber plug OK next to all that heat? It is a somewhat temporary fix, and I'm prepared to do it again, if needed. I just want to get her running again.

When I pull the exhaust manifold, I'll need a new gasket. Any special choices on the type? Do I use a high heat gasket sealer on it?

Thanks for any tips offered.
