Re: IML: 67 won't turn over with good battery

I think you can jump two terminals of the relay to achieve this. I don't remember which ones, but a quick check of the wiring diagram should confirm. Of course if the connection between the relay and the starter is bnad, nothing will happen even if the starter is good. I replaced my starter before I found the problem. Now I have an extra starter. It wasn't even dirty, nor was the relay, so I assume a previous owner had run into the same trouble I had, but never found the real problem. That turned out to be the small wire between the relay and the starter.

The last time I tried to start it the cranking slowed gradually until it wouldn't turn over at all. I assumed the battery went dead and let it sit for a few months. But now I'm told by NAPA that that is how a bad starter will also act. I was told a simple way to troubleshoot it is to cross a screwdriver in the large and small nuts on the starter where the positive lead come in. If it cranks it rules out a bad starter.

I'd like confirmation this is safe and will not harm the electrical system.
