Re: IML: Rust under the Vinyl top and trim

When I had the windshield replaced in my 69 coupe, the installer told me the rust was worse then he expected it to be. He did a nice job of putting it back together without any damage to the trim or any goo showing inside. With all of the hassle & fuss they made about doing my job (put me off for 5 months hoping I would go away), it took him about an hour & a half.  I was fully satisfied with the results.

Be careful with rust under a vinyl roof. Always expect there to be more than you can see. I have a 69 Lebaron Coupe. With the roof on I believed that there was some rust on the front of the roof in the middle running back about 8" from the windshield. No other rust was apparent. It turned out there was rust all around the windshield and particularly bad at the top of the A-pillars. There was also rust at the back under the fiberglass insert.

Also, from what I have seen on my car, you must remove both front and back windshields to replace the vinyl roof since the vinyl goes beneath/behind the trim clips which are installed with the windows removed.

Good luck.

Hello all, I recently purchased a 74 with minimal rust under the trim and vinyl top. What should I do to fix it. Is it easy to replace the Vinyl top. The rust is pretty much on the surface- Thanks Anthony
