RE: [Fwd: Re: IML: stripped oil pan drain]

It is definitely stripped but holding for now. I can't work on it right away but will look into finding one of these plugs. Thanks.

Robin, that is not uncommon and as a result some oil plugs are available in a self tapping oversize that don't require pan removal. Lordco or another local jobber may be able to supply this if you take your plug in. Are you sure it is stripped? Maybe it is a just a gasket problem. If the jobbers can't help, I can check my books for oversize options.

Hi Robin,
They do make oversize drain plugs that actually cut new threads as you're installing them. I would try that first before going through the work of removing the oil pan.

Any brilliant ideas on a quick fix for a stripped oil pan drain? I changed oil yesterday and the plug felt weird going in and would not tighten. It now just turns with a wrench but seems to be holding although there is a small leak. Guess the pan has to come off.
