IML: Meeting the Goal Every Step of the Way

I bought my '58 in April of 2004, I think, for $500 (I think again).  I've wanted this particular car since I was in high school (Class of '82) and watched from afar as it sat.  It was literally a dream come true to get it.  I'm still excited when I think about it.

Now I have the Imperial in storage and don't expect to be able to work on it any time soon.  These days I'm all about building my career, raising young kids, stewarding my marriage, helping my aging parents and all of the stuff that comes along with those things.  However, the day will come when I'll be able to work on the Imperial, get it back on the road and spend the years thereafter enjoying it and spiffing it up.  That day may come in a year or ten.  I don't really care.  In the meantime, I already have my dreamcar, and am very confident that I'll be driving it one day.

I've had other "old" cars at various times in my life, all solid drivers.  These days I have a '69 Electra convertible (which is for sale, by the way).  I'll probably buy something else before I get to the Imperial.  I like my other cars, but I love my Imperial.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that for some of us, owning Imperials  has nothing to do with time or how much work and money it might take to keep them on the road.  Instead, the whole process is the experience we seek, not just the final result.

Hi Marty,
I have been in this same situation several times and I have alwats had a friend or two that encouraged me to continue the projects and keep up the enthusiasm.
Once you have the work done completely you will say: If I have to do this again I will !!!!!!!
Cheers

Subject: IML: Goal not met

Hi All,
I set a goal to have my 1959 Imperial completely restored by the anniversary of 20 years from the date I bought it. Well,
tomorrow will be 3/27/2007 20 years later that I bought the car in Penndel Pa. on 3/27/1987 when I was 25 years old. I still have interior work and a small fortune in some rechroming, along with getting the radio, window washer system and other minor things going. I'm still paying off loans from the 16,000  dollars I put into it in 2005. I have had many people in my life say that I'll never get this project done and to sell it. I have to admit, it has been a long hard road to get the car this far and with out the help of this site, the vendors, friends and family I would have most likely given up. So, I've set a new deadline, 1/28/2009, that is 50 years from when the car was built. Wish me luck, and thanks for all your help.
