Re: IML: rear axle drive shaft removal ?

Hello Edwin,

Congrats with your 1970 Imperial Le Baron, great choice !!
I own a 1960 Imperial Crown 4 door HardTop, don't you worry too much about the strange noises coming for the rear axle.
Those were build to last forever you know.

I am sure someone on the IML with more experience with a 70 will jump in on it, these list is great with loads of friendly people that want to help you.
However, I would recommend you to look out for a 1970 Service Manual, they show up from time to time on Ebay.

Good luck and have fun with your car!

Subject: IML: rear axle drive shaft removal ?

Hello,

Thanks for adding me to the Chrysler Imperial Club mailing list. I have a question concerning my 1970 Chrysler Imperial Le Baron 2-door hdtp, 440 cu/in. The rear axle makes a strange sound, supposingly being worn drive shaft bearings. I would like to know how to remove the rear axle drive shafts for this specific vehicle? Do I need to open the differential to get access to retaining clamps or can I just pull out the rear drive shaft after removal of wheel, brake drum, brake's and 5x retaining bolts?? I hope someone can give me some info.

Thanks a lot,

Edwin de Bruijn. (The Netherlands).
