Re: IML: Another 60 gage question

HI Clay,

Looks like you have some problems with the voltage limiter here.
You can check the temp gauge easily by grounding the wire that is going to
the temp sensor in the engine block. The temp gauge should peg then, don't
do it too long, otherwise you will fry the gauge !! Be careful.

On the otherhand, I am afraid that you already have fried it, since the
oilpressure gauge still pegs and the temp gauge is dead...
You see the powersuplly comes from the temp gauge, the voltage limiter is
inside this gauge and is feeding all the other gauges in the cluster
except for the Amp gauge.

I don't understand however how it comes that your gas gauge reads only one
quarter with a full tank...

You might also check the wire that is going to the oiltemp sensor for
grounding.

If you have the cluster out you can check the condition of the voltage
limiter, if you have a multitester you should read a pulsating voltage of
aprr. 5-6 Volts. If your meter shows 12 Volts your regulator is fried, and
you are in for a new one.

Tom Scott might have another solid state limiter on the shelf !

Good luck,

Robert
