If it were at least a decade back, perhaps? The tires
that I got were so old that they were cracking and
flat-spotted from age in a way that my 8-year old
BFG's on my other car are not even close to. I tried
driving the flat spots out but all that did was tell
me when I had a full bladder. I suspect the tires of
being much older, but didn't bother with the dates on
them - knew they had to go regardless.

Yes, they were 15's on my car, but were also oversized
and 8 ply instead of 4.

When I shopped for replacements, the Coker phone
person helped me look at sizes and I asked about the
larger one that was available for 15, since I was
trying to (foolishly) match what was on the car, not
knowing that these wouldn't fit in the trunk, as the
car came with no spare at all.

There was an over-sized, 8-ply type of tire listed in
the Coker inventory that had been available but no
longer was. It was listed as "Limousine" or for
higher weight or something - I forget what the exact
nomenclature was...

This trip I took parallels the information (although
in 14" on Phillipe's question) that was being asked
about, so that was what I was driving at - that there
was probably an upgraded, larger capacity tire, and
that I'm suspecting they'd fit, although 55 is a
different animal from the later finned cars regarding
axle/body overhang, etc.
