IML: No Ticket Here either

Ken,

Great story.  Thanks for sharing.  I had the same thing happen at San Antonio International Airport several years ago, maybe 1998 or 1999.  Anyhoo, I was using the Imperial to pick up my parents, in their 70s, from the airport.  I had no cell phone at the time, so I stopped in the white zone to run in and check the arrivals monitor.  I asked the cop if it was OK and he said sure.  When I came out he asked when the plane was due and I said maybe five minutes.  He then asked about the Imperial.  What year?  1958.  What engine?  The last year for the 392 Hemi.  I was about to get in and move away when he said, "Hell, boy that must be the only running 58 Imperial in the state of Texas so even if I did try to run I wouldn't get far so just leave it there.  It'll be fine."  He continued shooing everybody else away and even though the plane was a little late he was just fine with allowing me to leave it right where it was until my folks arrived.  My mother loved it.  Thought it made it look like her son had finally hit the big time.  Dad was more circumspect but he certainly appreciated the curb side service.  Funnily enough, my mother gave me a hard time for calling the policeman "sir" when I said thank-you.  My dad, however, was delighted, especially when I called him "sir" too.  "He had to come to Texas to learn manners but at least he's got them.  I guess it made him appreciate the old American iron at least a little bit, if being carried around in a luxo-boat was the price he had to pay to finally be called sir by at least one of his sons.

Subject: IML: No Ticket Here

This past weekend my wife and I were part of the wedding for her sister.  Part of my involvement was to chauffer the new bride and groom in my 68 LeBaron from the chapel to the reception hall.  Once at the hall I discovered that all legal parking spaces anywhere near the front of the hall were taken.  So I figured what-the-heck and parked in a red zone right in front of the hall.  Several late comers figured since my LeBaron was parked in the red, they could too.  About an hour into the festivities someone ran in screaming that the police were ticketing all the cars in the red zone.  When I got outside, the officer had indeed managed to ticket several cars.  Once all the car owners showed up he told them they had to move their cars, but the classic (my LeBaron) could stay where it was.  Does this officer have good taste or what?
