I'll start with the design.

 

In 1962 the drift tube was still in effect ( usage ).  This means the carb did not have an vac port at the base.

 

The 1963 year was the design change due to mandated requirements.  But it has been a while since 1962 and pre-owners may have retro-fitted the newer carb and etc on your car.

 

The 1962 intake manifold was the same part number until the finish of the 413 in Imperials.  It was also the same intake manifold for the first series ( two years ) of all 440's with-in MoPar.  The base plate design was known as the "sq port" since all ports/passages were of the same size.  In 1968 the "spread-bore" design was put into usage ( for all MoPars that used the 4 bbl carb, except the -3 engines in very large vehicles ).

 

Another item to look at is the sq bore carbs are an "push to open" and the spread bore has the "pull to open" design.

 

The CFM's are only about the 625 size on the sq bore engines.

 

I hope this gets you started in knowing what you want to know with "carb-al-i-gly".

Hi guys, can someone direct me to information on the various models of Carter AFB carbs for Imperials, what I need to know is: can any Mopar AFB be used on my 1962 2 door, or only the 3251S and 3256S listed in the shop manual for the SY1 for '62, also does anyone know the CFM size for these model carbs ? When the 413 was used for a number of years before the 440, surely the carbs wouldn't change much between years, or did they change with each model year for some obscure reason ?
