Re: IML: Roof panel inserts

I agree, it isn't that bad of a job. The Sedan models are slightly more difficult due to the fragile upholstery, pillar trim, and wind lace. Still, disturbing a 48 year old Southampton perforated vinyl headliner almost certainly will present unexpected problems. I replaced the headliner in my Sedan in the late 1980's with good results.

As expected, I have already been out bid on those panels, and I doubt that I will revisit the auction. Even with a 1980's replacement headliner, I don't expect I would get around to installing them and possibly another headliner with all that wind lace any time soon, and parts storage for me is a BIG problem.

When I installed the ones on my 60, I just unstuck the edges of the headliner in a few places & got my arm up underneath. Not too difficult. I also used some soft putty around the bolts to prevent water leakage.

I believe that you do need to remove the headliner in order to remove
the roof trim that holds them down.

@Paul:

As you know, I own a 60 Crown 4 door HT. How difficult is it to fit
these roof panel inserts?
I really like them a lot, allthough they are already high on the dollar
at Ebay...
However, I don't want to tear down the headliner if that is necessary
to fit those inserts.

Do you have any idea how hard it is to mount these roof panels?

They are made to fit a four door. I believe that the request was for a
Two Door, which requires longer panels. Also, these specific panels
will only work on '60 & '61. They could be made to work on '62, but
would require some skill, and the acquisition of a several more
expensive trim pieces. 1963 had a completely different roof line and
these will NOT fit that year.

Hi: Someone on the list was looking for a pair of Stainless Steel
roof panel inserts. There is a pair for sale on E-bay for the 1961-63
Imperial. I'm not sure if those are the years he was looking for.

They are item # 200206339211.
