Re: IML: Wheel Rims/Brake Cooling/Dents

The raised edge that is referred to at the end of this post is actually on the wheel covers, not the rims. It existed from 1960 through 1966 that I know of, and must have included '59 as well. The special wheel covers worked in concert with the special hubs to cool the brakes.

It is because of these "slotted" wheel covers that many of our cars have dents poked into the dished portion of the cover. This is a result of someone in a brake or tire shop inserting a screw driver through the cooling slot to pry off the wheel cover instead of prying on the outside edge, which is reinforced for that purpose.
