IML: Special Handling

I have heard of cars on the new car show circuit being coded for a show car 
detailing. I think it was a car magazine that I read this in 10 years ago, 
or so.It mentioned that these cars get a special wet sanding and polishing, 
plus other detail attention. I wonder if cars destined for dealer showroom 
duty get this attention and coding, as well. Imagine, if it were on a 
national circuit, thousands of people may have sat in that "special 
handling" Imperial. Talk about special handling!

But "special handling?"  I assume it means it was built to specs ordered by
the buyer?  I remember when people did that.  You never hear about "special
ordering" a car anymore.
