RE: IML: 1968 Check Gauges light/Oil Pressure

Paul has already listed the main causes.  Any of these causes is expensive to repair.

There are other possibilities, such as the wrong oil being used (you should be using at least either straight SAE30W or 15W40, depending on where you live, low oil quantity, or a worn oil pump.

I ask you again, what does the gauge read when this is going on?

What can cause low oil pressure. The oil pump, or what wears on the engine that causes this.

Thanks.

Hi List,

This light seems to flicker all the time, at idle, when you let go of the gas pedal, do you guys know what causes this. I had a 69 imperial many years ago and had the same problem but I thought it was the alternator not putting out enough juice. It has anew battery and the alternator was checked.

Thanks Guys and Girls.
