Thanks for the information. You are correct. I pulled the old one and compare it to the later model and the starter gear is larger. I am going to get my original rebuilt. One thing the part number stamped on the starter is 1889477 for anyone that would the number for future use.

A friend tried to put a direct drive starter on his 1964 Valiant after
having the transmission and torque converter overhauled.  Unbeknownst to
him, the shop installed an American torque converter (US Valiants used the
reduction gear starter, Canadian hung onto the Prestolite direct drive
version) and the result was a broken gear on the bendix drive.

So it you want to change starters, you will need to change torque converter
/ ring gear.   If you are having problems  with your starter, any good auto
electric shop can rebuild them.  The Autolite/Prestolite starters are
similar to the ones used by Ford, AMC and Studebaker (who also used
Autolite/Prestolite as an auto electric supplier) so parts are around.
