[FWDLK] bright dip?

I have a rather large area of aluminum "trees" on my front grill. I originally thought that they were a mill finish since they seem to be cast parts. But, behind the screw heads are real bright. I dont think that they will polish to that finish. Was this trim piece anodized and it just has worn off or was the casting just bright and clear coated? I have seen "brite dipping" advertized in magazines
what is this process. What about Dip'it the coffee pot cleaner? I have had mixed results with acids on other al. parts. Any recomendations or suggestions?
