Re: [FWDLK] L-FORWARDLOOK Digest - 11 Jun 1998 to 12 Jun 1998

The power steering unit I refer to is the main unit along the steering
column inside the engine compartment, NOT the pump where the fluid goes. I
have a shop manual which clearly shows how to disassemble it and repair
everything, but it's a major job even if I had all the new seals. Further,
the manual says that the lower housing is under pressure, while the upper
housing has low-pressure fluid. The problem occurs when the seal between
them is worn, causing the pressurized fluid to enter the upper area, where
it seeps out of the vent hole on top of the unit. This of course if
evidenced by the lowering of the fluid in the pump reservoir and the
ever-increasing puddle under the car!
