walter, the way I heard it, the government wanted to standardize automatic transmission selectors, in the name of safety. Chrysler's pushbuttons lost out to the column shift. There was more to the story but I can't recall it at present. the Edsel had pushbuttons on some models as did some other makes, but all had gone belly up or switched to column selectors...what was the last year of Mopar pushbuttons anyway?
