Re: [FWDLK] new subscriber

Basically you are right about the '58 car in the Christine movie not being a Fury, for the reasons you mention. One other detail - it doesn't have a model name (the Fury emblem) on the fin, either in the assembly line scene, or any other scene. When Stephen King wrote his book, he called the car a "red four-door Fury." Obviously both the book and movie either took some artistic embellishments, or didn't know (or care) what really came from the factory. More likely it was the latter!

Hi Mopar Fans!

My name is Jim Rawa from wallington NJ, I just joined the Forwardlook mailing
list and will give you a quick rundown of my relation to this club. I
currently own 2- 57's and a 59 plymouth and just restored a 57 Fury for a
friend of mine. The first is a 57 savoy 2dr hardtop that was stored from '63
till '94 and 100%rust free, as all of you know is almost unheard of. it was a
6-powerflite car, but now modified with a 405hp 440 engine from a '69
roadrunner, worked 727, and 8-3/4 rear. the interior is red + white tuck +
roll limited to the original patterning, body is sand dune white. it takes
tropjies wherever it goes. i have a 560 watt stereo almost concealed in the
car and its good for a mid 13et.
The next is a 57 belvedere 2dr sedan done in the christine color scheme, it
has a pontiac drivetrain, 8-3/4 rear, and flame throwing tailpipes. its a
local legend in NJ. If any members are from north jersey, I run the shows at
The Whiskey Cafe on sat nights with the Asphalt Angels. there has been flame
throwin' there as well as Rutt's Hut and the Riverview East diner.
unfortunately, i just sold it a day ago to a guy in Wisconsin, whom i'll
inform to join as well.
My 59 Belvedere is a 2dr ht with only 24k orig mi, another barn car. it was a
318 poly w/powerflite, now a big block chrysler golden commando style, 727
trans, and stock rear. no toilet seat on the trunk. this one's just about
done.
I also just completed a 2yr resto a month ago on a 57 fury, (which is owned by
its original owner) it is real, of course and has 257,000 original
miles.....and looked it!!
i welded in all new floors, trunk, body mounts, rockers, qtrs, if it was
metal- it was rotted. the only deviations from correctness were adding
electronic ignition, nosing + decking w/electric trunk release, adding mylar
sweepspear inserts that are actually a 58 pattern, and a custom interior. it
has taken 2 1st place shows and recieved a mopar-survivors award so far.

An issue i'd like to address is Christine. of course everyone that has a clue
what a 57-58 plymouth is will automatically say "Christine". but my intrigue
is why everyone says its a Fury... ok, in the movie we get a glimpse of a 350
2x4 commando in the scene after trashing.. which was an engine available in
any 58; 318 GC was the exclusive fury motor, BUT, nothing else points it in
the direction of being a fury.
I'll list the reasons why i feel this is NOT a Fury, and that it is a
Belvedere:
1* the body color is wrong (this is just paint though)
2* interior is wrong
3* silver anodized sweepspear (fury is gold)
4* grill should be gold
5* lower valance grill should be gold
6* the hubcap centers are not gold anodized
7* the tail light inserts are not anodized around lollipop stick
8* most 58's came w/suregrip (1 wheel spins while crushing fat kid)

i think i saw the 150 speedo in the movie, but that would be the only "Fury
unique" item on that car in the movie.

i'm just looking for some answers here- did someone actually de-fury the car
for the movie? was this a fury by numbers but restored to look like a
belvedere? and on top of that, the rest of the cars on the assembly line were
also NOT Furys for the same anodized reasons.

In any case, this club was a good find for me- these cars basically dont exist
where i come from. the are only 2 other 57-59's in my area besides the ones
i'm responsible for restoring, another 57 fury and a 59 savoy.

sincerely,
   Jim Rawa
