Here is a summary of the results of the question asked a week ago about when and where Chrysler used a red distributor wire boot. Everyone that responded agreed that Chrysler used a red distributor wire boot on the #1 spark plug wire in the early forwardlook years and into 1958 also on all six cylinder, poly-head and hemi-head motors. Two respondents agreed that the 1961 Chrysler 300G from Nebraska, which still has 71 original miles, has a red boot on the coil wire at the distributor. There were no other respondents regarding cars built after 1959, although one person expects they continued the practice. Everyone is baffled why there is any need to put the red boot on the coil wire. My summary is that all Chrysler products from 1955-1958 and all motors in those years used the red boot on #1 plug wire at the distributor. I expect that at least all Hemi motors back to the '51 Chrysler, '52 DeSoto, and '53 Dodge also had the red boot on #1 plug wire. Probably all poly and 6 cyl. motors also did from 1951-1958. There was insufficient response to reach any summary regarding 1959 and later motors. I hope this was helpful for you detail restorers. To repeat, Gary Goers does offer a reproduction red boot.
