It's even worse than that. Lee ran a #42 '56 D-500-1,
but Richard did not start running #43 (or any other
number) until a couple of years later. Richard's first
race car was a '57 or '58 Oldsmobile (the Pettys
signed a factory deal with Olds for '57, used Olds
equipment and parts until early mid-'59 when they came
back to Plymouth).
Richard's first *personal car* was Lee's '56 Dodge
racecar, which says a lot about how much different
NASCAR is today, but he didn't race this in any
sanctioned events AFAIK...
