Re: [FWDLK] Question about puleys

Nick,

You need to get yourself a 55-56 MoPar parts book for this type of info.

Section 7-03 shows that all '55-56 Plym and Dodge sixes (with or without
p/s) use a single pulley system. The same crank and fan pulleys are used on
all sixes with or without p/s. The crank pulley is 6-9/16" diameter, fan
pulley is 7-3/16" diameter. The generator pulley used with p/s is different
from that used without p/s because the p/s generator shaft is different
(pulley diameter not given).

On 55-56 Plymouth V8's with p/s a single crank pulley is used with a double
fan pulley. One belt runs from crank to fan to an idler pulley, while a
second belt runs from the fan to the generator. The generator pulley is
single.

AFAIK the only 55-56 models that use double generator pulleys are DeSoto and
Chrysler so that is where your other p/s generator probably came from. The
numbers on the generator tag should confirm this.

The p/s pump with the clamp-on lid is an Eaton pump and the one with the
small cap with built-in dipstick is a Vickers pump. All '55 models used the
Eaton pump. Most '56 models use the Vickers pump but either is correct.

Robert
