I had a very wise
Great Uncle named Carl who used to give me some really great
advice.
Some of that advice
that's relevant to the list this morning is, "there are two types of fools --
one who keeps his mouth shut, and one who opens it."
While this mailing
list is generally pretty mellow, occasionally spirited debates take place.
No one has any problems with people who make a claim, and back up their claim
with facts and/or experience. Keeping quiet when you have pertinent
information to that debate makes you the fool who keeps his mouth
shut.
What annoys the
living H-E-double-toothpicks out of everyone is the fool who opens his
mouth. More specifically, the person who turns a debate into a
personal attack. None of us are interested in watching people call
each other names. None of us are interested in who "wins" the pecking
match. None of us care who started it. And most importantly, no one
thinks very highly of anyone who starts OR continues a vicious verbal sparring
match.
When my three (and a
half!) year old niece Lindsay calls her friend Taylor a "poopyhead", and Taylor
calls Lindsay a "dumb-butt", I send them BOTH to the corner until they cool
off. Don't make me start giving "Time-Outs" to you folks. I'm more
of a quick-spank-on-the-bottom kind of Dad...
