Re: [FWDLK] Cost of Trans Overhaul

All

First of all, THANKS! for all the answers, encouragement, ideas, thoughts and
everything else that all you guys and gals gave me on the transmission
overhaul.

What I did in the end is I bought a frame with a trans and engine ('57 Fury),
drivetrain,  suspension and wheels on it for $500.  The guy who want up with
me took the engine for $250, (a bargain).  I took the trans and gave it to
trans shop in Haledon, NJ and they rebuilt it from the two transmissions.
The final cost with a discount (he's an old friend), was $1073.75.  It took
8.5 hours of labor.  It included a Banner Kit (from Fatsco), a kickdown band,
low/rev band and a filter.  He did take parts from both transmissions, so I
have 3 boxes of old trans parts.  Some that are good and some that aren't.  I
really can't tell which ones are which.  I have the casing and the emergency
brake and both are in really good condition.  The pan and the pump also looks
great.  So, when anyone is looking for some trans parts just yell, I should
be able to hear you.

Again, thanks for all the great e-mails that you all sent.  There is no other
list like this anywhere.  Dave S., thanks again for starting the thing and
perpetuating it.

John (Paxos)
