Re: [FWDLK] Oil Filter Interchange?

This evening I disected 2 oil filters - a Fram PH8A and a Motorcraft 820S.
In a previous post I mentioned a string supposedly being used in the Fram to
hold it together during mfging - no string found in the Fram but the MoCraft
had it tied around the paper filter inside. Don't know if that could be
harmful or not. The Fram filter had 35 paper pleats and the Mocraft had 53.
But the Mocraft filter is of shorter length (2 3/4" inside) and the Fram is
longer (4" inside) - so which has the greater filtering capacity? To make
a better comparison you'd have to compare the PH8A to the FL1A. (same size).
The Fram does have the plastic anti drain valve peice like someone mentioned
whereas the Mocraft is of a different type and is metal. Also the Fram has
paper material on the ends of the inner filter and the Mocraft has metal
ends. To sum it up the Motorcraft filter appears to be the better filter -
it looks like it took a little more engineering and money to make it.
