Re: [FWDLK] Long-distance car buying:

Dave,
I once sold a BSA motorcycle to a guy in Denmark. I insisted that i get all
the cash up front then once his check cleared I crated it up and his shipper
came and picked it up. I guess that both parties will rightfully be wary of
each other.
If you have someone inspect it for you can you also have that person handle
the $$ transaction? When the car is ready to go on the trailer then have
hime exchange the cash and the title.
You could also consider the use of an escrow service. I did this on my first
few e-bay transactions. You pay to the escrow agent and they do not release
the money to him or the title to you until you inspect and accept the car.
You may be able to get a local lawyer to handle the escrow transaction also.
Good luck,
Scott

Anyone have any "tips/advice" relative to the purchase of a vehicle when
you
will never meet the current owner (like when the seller as well as the car
are on the other side of the country)? Not being able to actually see the
car is not of great concern (I have a "dis-interested" party near the
vehicle who will check it out for me), but I *am* a bit nervous about
sending $$$ and then *hoping* the seller will send me my car.
There must be some sort of "rules/guidelines/standards or proper
procedures"
for transactions such as this that people generally follow. I would
appreciate any input/opinions - this will be the first time I have ever
purchased a car "sight unseen".- wish me luck.

Thanks.
