[FWDLK] Coil voltage

Has anyone ever measured the output voltage of the coil from the pos term to
ground while the engine was running?

I suspect I may have a weak coil on my 61 300G and when I checked that
particular terminal to ground, I only get 8 vdc and it rythmically pulsates
1/2v up and down on either side of the 8vdc.

When I check across both terminals of the coil, I get 6vdc.  Does this sound
right to any of you?  How is the coil supposed to be checked anyway?
