[FWDLK] Ammeter gauge

The ammeter gauge on '61 Imperial swings like crazy
for about 5 minutes after the car gets going before it
returns to normal. I have a new alternator and NOS
gauge on the car.

Any ideas what is causing this? or how to fix it?
