Thanks to all who advised me I was using the wrong puller.  Seems that whatever man designs and builds either loosens or welds itself together over time.  I will check around for another puller on-line or through JC Witney or other sources.  I will also check some of the "older" repair shops around Ohio to see if I can borrow one.  The key is finding one, or even a mechanic who has even heard of one (since most are now "technicians" limited to whatever the computer suggests).
