I've gotten NOS that was literally junk also.  In  a number of cases though
I would much rather have a NOS piece t use than a replated one.   There are
lots of fine detail areas that are lost when plating or at least softened.

I'd get the nos piece and hope to find another or simply put it into stock
for future use of some sort.

The"O" in NOS does stand for "old."  I've gotten some NOS chrome that wsa
less than perfect, with some small pits.  Granted this was for a '40's car,
so it had sat somewhere for sixty years with the paper tag still on it.  Not
that I'm unhappy, just making an obervation.
