Re: [FWDLK] Monroe vs Gabriel shocks

Both are good quality shocks.  The major difference is the Gabriel seals at the top.  On some cars particularily Dodges you had to watch that you had enough clearance for the shock canister to go all the way to the top and seal.  I also think the Gabriels tended to leak a little more than the Monroe.  The Monroe had an exposed rubber bladder that is vulnerable to road hazard, where as the Gabriel bladder is better protected by the canister.  I have noticed that the higher end G.M. cars used the Monroe style air shock and they seemed to have stood up pretty good in terms of not leaking after many years of use.  Our road conditions are pretty harsh so I think they are a good choice.  I would recommend an onboard air compressor.  The air shock gives a nicer ride than a shock with an added spring.

Hi,
I would put a pair of rear air shocks on my '57. So i order MA 704
Monroe air shocks at Shockshop because i can't find them in France.
But they are out of stock ! They told me that they could provide the
same air shocks in Gabriel brand.
How are the Gabriels ? I know Monroe quality but not Gabriel. And, as
you think, i need quality ...
