Re: [FWDLK] Trim Removal Help Needed

That is exactly what they will be. Chrysler loved using them since they
were fast to put on and near impossible to remove. You very often break the
pin when removing them. I have been able to squeeze the ends and get them
to pop off and sometimes have cut them in two. Also have used bent ice pick
type pullers to snap them off when lucky. Problem is these are especially
tough to get at since the inner panel is a long ways from the outside. The
clips can be found in the special hardware boxes at any good hardware store
at least but it is nicer to use screw on nuts instead since they can be
removed ( at least a lot of the time)

Hello,
Well, I would venture to say that the number of persons interested in
solving your problem is greater than the number of actual 57 Chrysler
owners on this List. Perhaps if you could give some more details? On my 59
Plymouth (and some other Mopars I've parted out) there are what I call
"one-way" clips...they push on over the prongs of the potmetal item. I've
seen round ones, and rectangular ones.
If you are able to pull, and twist in one direction simultaneously, you may
be able to create a threaded prong and actually unscrew it.
More often however, you will be forced to stick a screwdriver or wirenose
pliers under one of the "fingers" and bend it up and away, effectively
ruining the clip but saving the prong.

  Hello, All,

Once again a little thorn has inserted itself into my side, and I need
some help.

As you may recall, I am having the body restored on my 1957 Chrysler
Saratoga 4dr. The body man is at a point where he needs to remove the
chrome "potmetal" frame from around the license plate recess in the trunk
lid. The pins that stick through the sheetmetal are at fastened by a kind
of clip that neither one of us have ever seen. Since they are reached
through holes punched through the inner shell of the trunklid, they are
rather hard to reach, and before trying to experiment removing them, I
thought I'd ask for any available help/advice.

Does anyone know how these things come off? Do they unscrew, or is it
possible to relieve tension by squeezing them or something? Is there a
special tool needed? Any help will be appreciated.

  Thanks,

  Joe Savard
