My local upholstery shop underlays all jacquard fabrics of our type with
another material.  It was heavy like a broadclot, but just slightly
stretchy.  They said it took the strain off of the fabric.

Maybe there's a way of installing the material that will increase the
longevity.  For example some sort of backing that will take some of the
pull, because it seemed like the fabric ripped when stretched.
