Re: [FWDLK] Special bodied, chrysler powered car...

The Norseman went down with the "Anrea Doria".

The car had been crafted in Italy by Ghia Coachbuilders to Chrysler's
specification. It was being shipped home, presumably for use on the
carshow circuit, when the "Stockholm" and "Andrea Doria" collided just
off the US coastline.

Design details of the Norseman included a revolutionary cantilevered
roof design with no "A" or "B" pillars, a retractable rear window, and
hidden headlights.

The few photos and drawings of the car indicate that it was a beauty.

Although it is hard to tell, Dan's photos of the mystery car at:

http://www.danrapley.com/ItalianBody/OldBody.htm

seem to show a custom bodied car with a Ford V8. The generator peeking
up from between the cylinder heads looks more like a Ford configuration
rather than early V8 MoPar, where the generator was carried off to the
side - I think.

So which was lost on the Andrea Doria...the Norseman or the Plainsman?
