Re: [FWDLK] Noise gets OLD(er)

There is a difference between using a substance for noise-proofing and
using it for rust-proofing.
Many of the auto manufacturers used a coal tar based substance to sound
proof their vehicles, if you think not, pull all of the carpet and padding
out of your modern car and replace the seats with a lawn chair. Then drive
down a dirt road and try to talk to the person sitting next to you, then
you'll see why they used sound-proofing materials. It was less expensive
than all that padding and carpeting along with luxurious seats.

On the other hand rust-proofing was applied as it sounds to keep your car
from rusting away before the last payment was made, a real problem for
those of us who lived in Ohio at the time as the state used salt on the
roads like it was going out of style. Factory rust-proofing wasn't always
the best either. I prefer a product called Texaco rust-proof, it was heated
up and then sprayed on. the down side was when your car sat in the sun on
warm or hot days it would drip rust-proofing but the stuff worked great
because it always stayed in a greasy form.
