Rich, in all probability, your parking-brake may only need an
adjustment, or, @ worst, a re-lining or replacement of the parking brake
'shoe'.

A replacement of the carrier gear-set is a bolt-in operation. The rear
brakes can be made to "fall-off" the axle housing.

It's your dinero, but the replacement of the rear axle would not appear
to be a very "economical" operation.
