I just had to add on this one. My car originally came from Oklahoma. The
car itself was COVERED in the ever famous "Red Mud" (very thick and dense
clay, and no, that doesn't mean I am too.... LOL!!) from the area. I
certainly believe this is what contributed to my cars survival. Sure, it had
rust in the rockers, quarters, etc. but nothing like you would expect from a
car that spent it's entire life outside. IF and only IF, the container was
breached by moister, I would think it would be filled with this "Red Mud",
and almost cocooned in it left for archeologists to dig the car out. What I
envision being the case though is the car is sitting in about a foot or more
of this "Mud" and will require some digging to free it, but since it was in
said "Mud" it is relatively clean metal. I literally had to chip this stuff
off of my car when I got it, but the metal underneath it in all cases was
very very nice. The rockers, it looks like, filled with water and mud, but
more water, thus rusting them.
Just my $0.02 worth.
Oh and yes, if I can ever get my butt in gear, I hope to be there in my
Plymouth (the same one from that area)! If not, I'll be there in the `61
DeSoto (gotta show in a Forward Looker, right?!?)
