only shipping is sometimes expensive but some people charge you for handling and
that is up to them how much that is.

Use the "Ask Seller a Question" feature to ask
about shipping expense well before the auction closes where shipping expense
is not specified in the ebay listing. Then hold them to it after the
auction. If you don't like what the seller says shipping will be (or if
they don't reply), don't bid. Some of the real abusers are the
sellers of automotive sales literature and ads. They frequently charge
$4 to $5 and shipping is but a small fraction of those amounts.
Like you, I am strongly against excessive shipping charges or
surprises.

Maybe I am cheap, but have eBay
shipping prices gone stupid? I bid what I thought a couple things were
worth for my 64 Fury and ForwardLook Coronets, and shipping prices are
almost more than the item (not shown in the listing). These are small,
not fragile items, and the shipping costs shown on the (used) boxes show the
real shipping costs, and old newspaper sure isn't expensive. Are
sellers making up for low bids by extensive padding of shipping costs (or am
I just cheap)?
