Did the '57 come originally equipped with hood insulation?  If so, did they use some sort of fasteners/retainers?  Ifso, I'd try to locate those before using glue...
 
My '59 does not appear to have any such accomodation for fasteners, and it had some sort of after-market insulation glued in and it really looked...er.."tacky."    Then the body shsop started pulling it off, and now I have the glue and bits of insulation and foil still stuck to it.

 Super  77 from 3M should do the trick. There might be something stronger I believe that trim shops use on gluing down vinyl tops, you might want to stop by and ask..
