Re: [FWDLK] 57 D-500 Valve Covers

Tony,

Valve covers for 56 and 57 D500 Hemis are the same. They should have bumps
for clearance of the exhaust rocker arms. A few Dodge 315 Hemi trucks also
used these covers until 1959. The spark plug covers had notches to clear the
bumps.

Only the 56 D500 engine had solid lifters, which require the bumps for
clearance of the adjuster screws. In 57, D500s went back to hydraulic
lifters. Once the tooling was modified for 56 D500 Hemi covers, it was not
changed back to delete the bumps when they were no longer necessary. If you
cannot find the correct covers with bumps for your 57, you can use any Dodge
Hemi valve cover from 1953 to 59. Poly covers will not fit.

Tony:

The 57 D500 is a hemi engine. The D500 in 58 is a B block engine and
completely different.
